Bai Yin Lecture Hall β Highlights from Group Practice, September 27, 2025 (Saturday)
Dear students, greetings! Iβm Master Bai Yin. Welcome to todayβs Bai Yin Lecture Hall.
We have just passed the Autumn Equinox and officially entered late autumn. Have you noticed the air becoming drier? Cracked lips, tight skin, coughing, and nasal dryness are all classic signs of autumn dryness.
In traditional wisdom, this season is called βWhite Dew, Bamboo Withersβ β meaning water in nature is being stored, and plants begin to wither. Today, I want to share how to balance Lung Metal and Spleen Earth, so that autumn dryness does not trouble us.
π How Autumn Dryness Affects the Body
The dry autumn climate directly affects the lungs, which are delicate and dislike dryness. The Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperorβs Classic) states: βDryness injures the lungs; acrid flavors moisten them.β
But many only know βnourish the lungs in autumnβ without realizing the lungs and spleen are closely connected.
- In the Five Elements theory:
- Spleen = Earth
- Lungs = Metal
- Earth generates Metal
π This means that a strong spleen and stomach nourish Lung Qi. To have healthy lungs, we must first care for the spleen!
π The SpleenβLung Connection
This is not just Five Element theory β itβs physiology.
| Organ | Function | Connection with Autumn Dryness |
|---|---|---|
| Spleen | Transforms food into Qi & fluids, generates blood, moistens the body | Weak spleen = insufficient fluids to moisten the lungs |
| Lungs | Govern Qi, respiration, regulate water pathways | Weak lungs = poor distribution of fluids, obstructing spleen function |
β Conclusion: The spleen sends fluids upward to moisten the lungs, while the lungs spread them throughout the body. If either fails, both suffer. They nurture and rely on each other.
π§ Heart Technique: Intention on the Middle Palace
During autumn dryness, I teach a special Qigong mental method: βIntention on the Middle Palaceβ.
- The Middle Palace refers to the spleenβstomach region, the bodyβs energy center.
- By focusing intention there, we harmonize both spleen and lungs.
β¨ Bai Yin Qigong Mantra:
βIntend on the Middle Palace, Earth Qi rises to nourish Lung Metal, moistening the nine orifices; descends to connect Kidney Water, stabilizing the root; harmonizes spleen and stomach, nourishing the whole body.β
This method pairs well with HarmonyQi Stress Relief Technique and YoungQi Anti-Aging Rejuvenation Technique.
π Practice Steps
- Adjust posture β Upright & relaxed
- Feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent.
- Relax shoulders, tuck chin, crown lifted.
- Find the balance: relaxed but not loose, strong but not stiff.
- Adjust breathing β Deep, slow, even
- Inhale fresh Qi down to the lower Dantian.
- Exhale turbid Qi through pores.
- Use abdominal breathing at first, later progress toward embryonic breathing.
- Focus intention β Guard the Middle Palace
- Concentrate behind the navel (about 3 inches).
- Visualize a warm golden light expanding with breath.
- Guide Qi upward β Nourish the lungs
- When Middle Palace warmth is clear, guide energy upward through the diaphragm into the lungs.
- Imagine golden Qi moistening and softening the lungs.
π Suggested Daily Practice Plan
- Morning (5β7 am, Lung Meridian time):
- 5β10 min Intention on the Middle Palace Technique
- 15β20 min HarmonyQi Stress Relief Technique (focus on Zhoutian Foot-Stepping)
- Midday (12β2 pm, HeartβSpleen time):
- 5 min Intention on the Middle Palace Technique (seated)
- 7β9 deep breaths with focused intention
- Evening (9β10 pm, Kidney/Spleen time):
- 10 min Intention on the Middle Palace Technique
- Warm foot soak with ginger + brown sugar
π Autumn Wellness Tips
| Aspect | Practice | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Diet | Pears, lily bulbs, honey, white fungus β moisten lungs; Yam, lentils, red dates, millet β strengthen spleen | Nourish Yin, tonify Qi |
| Emotions | Avoid sadness (hurts lungs), avoid overthinking (hurts spleen) | Protect Qi & balance emotions |
| Routine | Sleep early, rise early; dress warmly, protect neck/back | Align with seasonal Qi, prevent cold invasion |
| Environment | Use humidifier, ventilate rooms without direct drafts | Reduce dryness, protect Lung Qi |
π How to Notice Progress
- Skin: more moist, less dryness
- Breathing: deeper, smoother
- Sleep: faster to fall asleep, more restful
- Digestion: better appetite, smoother digestion
- Energy: stronger, less fatigue
πΈ Key Takeaways
- Autumn dryness injures lungs β nourish both spleen & lungs.
- Practice Intention on the Middle Palace Technique β focus intention on Middle Palace, guide Qi to lungs.
- Daily rhythm: morning, noon, evening sessions + lifestyle adjustments.
- Wellness principle: βMoisten, not overly tonify.β
β Master Bai Yinβs Insight:
βAutumn health lies in moistening, not over-supplementing. Just like watering dry soil, what we need is gentle nourishment, not piling on fertilizer. By practicing Intention on the Middle Palace Technique, we discover an inner spring that endlessly nourishes the five organs. Let us protect this inner moistness together, and experience joy and harmony this autumn.β
