When Your Body Betrays Decades of Activity

For years, Zhonghua lived an active life. He played badminton regularly, went hiking, and maintained what seemed like good health. But decades of favoring his right side during badminton—rarely using his left—had quietly taken its toll.

The instructor asked everyone to hold hands. When another student touched his hand, they immediately pulled away and exclaimed:

For years, he’d suffered intense pain around the Gaohuang acupuncture point, especially when weather changed. He’d tried everything: traditional Chinese massage, acupuncture, muscle relaxant injections, steroid treatments from Western medicine. The effects only lasted about two days, leaving him in constant suffering.

Now, whenever he feels even slight discomfort, he practices Qigong—and the pain improves almost immediately afterward. He went from barely managing stairs to mountain climbing. His leg strength improved significantly. The more he practiced, the more flexible and confident he became.

Reflecting on when he first began learning Qigong—which he describes as the worst physical condition of his life—he says emotionally:

“The choices you make today will affect your future self. If I had not chosen to retire and learn Qigong back then, I would not have the healthy and happy body and mind that I have today.”


Why This Practice When Five Others Waited?

Their practices focused mainly on external movements, or in the case of Tai Chi, were mostly centered on sparring techniques. These weren’t what he was looking for.
