Dear Bai Yin Contemporary Qigong practitioners,
For many of us, when we first stepped into the world of Bai Yin Qigong, one of the very first core practices we encountered was the elegant and profound “LotusQi Heart-Nourishing Technique.” You may have once wondered: among so many exquisite techniques, why would the teacher place “nourishing the heart” in such a fundamental and important position?

The answer is both simple and deeply profound—because when the heart opens, everything becomes beautiful.
When our hearts gradually open like the lotus flower, clearing away inner dust and filling with joy and peace, we become truly ready to welcome the higher-level techniques like “EnerQi Dayan” and “YoungQi Rejuvenation Technique” with eager, focused, and unburdened hearts. Only then can we walk the path of cultivation with steadiness and longevity.

For those who have been practicing the “LotusQi Heart-Nourishing Technique” for a while, its flowing movements and graceful melodies may have become a familiar rhythm in life, a part of daily habit. You might feel you’ve already mastered each turn, each hand gesture and gaze—even able to complete the whole routine with eyes closed.
However, true cultivation is like exploring a mountain of endless treasures. It is often in unexpected moments that deeper and more brilliant revelations appear before us.

From Familiarity to Awe:

The Depth of the “LotusQi Heart-Nourishing Technique” Is Beyond Imagination

Long-term practice may sometimes cause us to fall into “habitual autopilot.” We focus on the accuracy of movements and the rhythm of breath, yet may overlook the broader heart-based philosophy behind the technique.
Until one day—perhaps during a “Virtuous Technique (Da Cheng Gong)” elite class—when Master Bai Yin re-analyzes the core of the “LotusQi Heart-Nourishing Technique,” many students suddenly light up with surprise and joy, exclaiming, “Oh! So that’s what it means!”
It’s as if an old friend reveals a hidden talent you’ve never seen, making you fall in love all over again with something so familiar.

This kind of “Ah-ha!” realization often stems from a deeper understanding of the technique’s structure and the transformation of one’s inner nature. Master Bai Yin once guided us to view the practice as a journey of heart and soul transformation, divided into three major stages:

Stage One: Nine Cycle Lotus

Symbolizes: The Budding of Heart and Initial Bloom of Life Force

Many think the focus of “Nine Cycle Lotus” is to stretch tendons and activate qi and blood flow. While that is important, Master Bai Yin emphasizes a deeper level—this stage marks the arising of the will to “cultivate the heart,” like planting a lotus seed that longs for transformation and growth.

This is the first step in inner awakening—the turning point from “body training” to “heart cultivation.”

But the true meaning of “blooming vitality” is more than personal energy. Master stresses that true heart cultivation must go beyond solitary meditation—it needs to “go out into the world.”
Through real-life actions, like serving as an Introducer for others or volunteering selflessly, we temper and refine our heart and character. In genuine interaction with others, the unnoticed tendencies and emotional patterns within us emerge.
Only then can we truly gauge our progress and recognize areas needing growth. The beauty of the lotus lies not only in its fragrance but in how it brings vitality to the whole pond.

Stage One Summary: Nine Cycle Lotus

  • Seed of Heart Cultivation: Not just physical training but awakening the desire to transform, shifting from body to heart.
  • Vitality Blooms Through Action: Go beyond personal practice—apply in real-life and interpersonal interactions.
  • Start of Inner Awakening: The journey begins by planting the seed of change.
  • Beyond Personal Cultivation: Only in community can we fully see and elevate our inner refinement.

Stage Two: Three Core Lotus

Symbolizes: Harmonious Integration of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity

In the “Three Core Lotus,” we are not only adjusting bodily energy—we are learning the wisdom of living in harmony with the universe. Master Bai Yin explains key movements:

  • “Looking up at the sky” connects us to Heaven, drawing in pure cosmic energy.
  • “Gazing at the blessings in our hands” roots us in the present, cultivating gratitude.
  • “Looking at the love from our parents” links us to our life origin, honoring the nourishment of familial love.

The merging of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity within us creates true inner and outer balance.

So what is the key to “Human Harmony”? Master reveals:
“Shift your mindset. Everything is led by intention. A joyful life is only a thought away.”
Many of our conflicts arise from fixed thought patterns.
When we learn to shift our mindset—with positivity, compassion, and wisdom—seemingly unsolvable problems begin to dissolve. Relationships improve, and life becomes joyful and fulfilling. This is not just an attitude shift—it’s a transformation of our energy field.

Stage Two Summary: Three Core Lotus

  • Unity of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity: Use movements to connect to universal forces and life roots.
  • Energy Fusion and Balance: Absorb cosmic energy, appreciate Earth’s nourishment, and return to your origin.
  • “Harmony” Comes from Shifting Thoughts: Mindset leads everything—peace and joy come from shifting perspective.
  • Transforming Energy Fields: A change in thoughts uplifts your entire energy field.

Stage Three: Five Cosmic Energy

Symbolizes: A Life of Harmony, Freedom, and Effortless Flow

“Five Cosmic Energy” represents a peak state where body and mind energy are in total harmony and smooth circulation.
Master guides us from the move “Cosmic Orbit”—which symbolizes the result of countless transformations: a lightness and ease that comes naturally after deep cultivation.

Decoding the movement imagery brings even more insight:

  • “Holding the ball” is not just gathering qi, but internal energy convergence, transformation, and circulation.
  • “Cosmic Enlightenment” invites visualization of clouds parting and inner light shining through—symbolizing overcoming life’s blocks and allowing inner wisdom to radiate.
  • “Walking the Bagua” teaches us to follow universal laws, finding balance and adaptability amidst change.

One of the most memorable teachings is the one-legged stance in “One leg Squatting Posture”
Many struggle to balance, thinking the issue is leg strength. But Master Bai Yin reveals:
The real challenge lies not in physical balance, but in mental freedom—a state of no hindrance.

When performing this in public, people often wobble due to subtle inner burdens—worrying about looking bad, fearing others’ judgment, being afraid to fail or fall, or appearing awkward.
These inner thoughts disrupt energy and body balance.

One of the ultimate goals of cultivation is to reach a point where, no matter the environment—even under the gaze of a hundred eyes—you can remain centered, calm, and grounded, completing the one-leg stance with full presence.
This is the true freedom of the heart—unshaken by external conditions.

Stage Three Summary: Five Cosmic Energy

  • Effortless Flow and Integration: Represents total inner and outer harmony reached through refined practice.
  • Elevated Symbolism: “Holding the Ball” concentrates and moves energy, “Thousand Hands” symbolizes illumination, “Bagua Steps” teach flexibility.
  • “One Leg Squatting Posture” Tests the Heart: One-legged stance is a test of the unburdened heart.
  • Free from Mental Hindrances: Let go of fear, pride, judgment to stabilize both mind and body.

“Up and Down in Sinking Sensation”: Great Wisdom in a Simple Movement

With such deep understanding of the three stages, we can now revisit even the smallest details with renewed insight.
Take for example the recurring movement “Up and Down in Sinking Sensation,” which appears six times in the routine.
In the in-depth analysis of the Virtuous Technique class, we come to realize that this seemingly simple transitional move holds the entire wisdom of rest.

In the poetic flow of the LotusQi Heart-Nourishing Technique, each of these six moments of pause and adjustment are not random. Like musical breath marks, they are carefully placed at key points of energy transition in the routine. They act as critical adjustment points…
