The month following the Winter Solstice is the coldest time of the year, often referred to as 'Cold in 3rd Nine' [Sanjiu]. During the Sanjiu period, the earth's energy is at its coldest, and combined with poor circulation in the body, the cold entering through the feet can be especially uncomfortable. Master Yin Quan reminds us that when the feet get cold, it can reflexively trigger issues in the respiratory and digestive systems, as well as other internal organs. It can also lead to colds, abdominal pain, and menstrual cramps in women. He recommends practicing kidney-strengthening exercises to improve cold-related issues in the feet.

All diseases arise from cold, and cold enters from the feet

Qi management expert Master Yin Quan explains that winter's intense cold most easily affects those with weaker immunity. Excessive cold can severely damage the body's yang energy, attacking areas like the spleen, stomach, airways, and uterus. It can even penetrate deep into the bones and joints, lingering inside the body and obstructing blood circulation. Over time, this leads to conditions such as cold hands and feet, frequent colds, insomnia, and menstrual irregularities.

Many health issues—including lower back pain, leg pain, frequent urination, kidney deficiency, menstrual cramps, and uterine fibroids—are actually linked to internal cold. This cold weakens circulation throughout the body, reducing overall energy levels. The first sign is usually cold hands and feet, indicating a deficiency in yang energy and an inability to distribute warmth to the extremities. When this happens, the body becomes more vulnerable to external cold, making colds and other illnesses more frequent. Eventually, this can result in a weakened constitution prone to minor illnesses every few days and major illnesses every month.

Why do we say, "Cold enters from the feet"? Master Yin Quan explains that the feet are the farthest from the heart and have relatively thin subcutaneous fat, making them less effective at retaining heat. In winter, with limited sunlight and nighttime heat loss, the ground becomes colder, and this cold energy rises from the feet into the body. This can lead to persistent coldness in the hands and feet, with the lower body being particularly susceptible to cold invasion.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers the feet the "second heart" of the body. Those with cold hands and feet often experience chronic symptoms related to poor peripheral circulation, weakened microcirculation in the internal organs, and reduced heart function.

Boost vital energy, expel cold, and improve weakness and frailty

Master Yin Quan points out that blood circulation in the lower body is naturally weaker than in the upper body, making it more vulnerable to cold. To protect the body's yang energy and resolve cold stagnation in the feet, keeping the legs and feet warm is essential. Additionally, practicing energy exercises can help expel cold from the body.

People who often experience cold hands and feet should engage in gentle and slow movements to improve circulation, which provides excellent nourishment for the body. For example, practicing palm trembling helps mobilize qi and blood, enhance meridian flow, and quickly boost circulation to expel cold. If you feel soreness in your hands and shoulders while practicing, it may indicate blockages in these areas, and continuing the practice can help clear them. Some people may also feel coolness in their fingertips while performing palm trembling—this suggests an excess of cold energy in the body, which requires continued practice to release. By expelling internal damp-cold energy and reducing the depletion of yang energy, even the extremities will gradually become warm and filled with qi and blood.

Another effective practice is kidney-strengthening techniques. Movements like raising the heels can activate kidney energy, unblock the Governing Vessel and Bladder Meridian—the two meridians with the strongest yang energy in the body. When yang energy flows smoothly, it becomes easier to dispel cold. Regular practice strengthens internal energy and enhances overall vitality.

The Amazing Power of One Practice: Mastering One Technique Can Transform You in a Year.

May 27th is a special day. Holding my advanced class graduation certificate in my hands, I felt truly happy—like I had officially stepped into a new milestone of self-empowerment.

Over the course of a year, I completed YoungQi Rejuvenation, EnerQi Dayan Five-Elements, and finally seized the opportunity to learn the advanced techniques of Turtle Longevity and Advanced EnerQi. At first, my family thought I was just momentarily excited and wouldn’t keep up with the practice for long.

But as the saying goes, one day without practice sets you back ten days. Skipping even one session meant losing the progress of ten days—it simply wasn’t worth it. This one-loss-ten concept made it impossible for me to slack off. If I hadn’t practiced yet, it felt like a weight of a thousand pounds on my chest.

I started with YoungQi Rejuvenation, committing to 100 days of foundational training. I used to wake up at 7 AM, but now, without an alarm, I naturally wake up at 6 AM to practice for 30-60 minutes every morning. No matter how busy my day is, or even when I travel abroad, I make sure to squeeze in at least 10 minutes of practice.

My family was surprised at my persistence. Through daily practice, I developed self-discipline and confidence. I even revived other good habits that I had previously abandoned due to laziness, incorporating them into my “Good Habit Checklist”—a valuable, unexpected benefit of learning Bai Yin Qigong.

Now, I’d like to share how my body has changed after a year of consistent practice.

▲ My Physical Condition Before Practicing Qigong:
  • Frequent acid reflux
  • Weight: 76.6 kg | Body fat: 22.0%
  • Seborrheic dermatitis—frequent peeling and redness on the face, requiring steroid cream once a week
  • Felt completely drained of energy after coming home
  • Often needed a nap on the MRT in the morning
  • Rarely sweated
  • Caught a cold once a month and had to see a doctor
  • Slept late, usually past 1 AM
▲ After Practicing Qigong:
  • No more acid reflux for an entire year
  • Weight: 66.0 kg | Body fat: 15.3%
  • Now only need moisturizer before bed, no more peeling, and haven't used steroid cream for months
  • No longer feel exhausted after coming home
  • Feel energetic in the morning, no longer need a nap on the MRT
  • Sweat more easily, especially after practicing qigong
  • In over a year, only had a cold 2-3 times
  • Now sleep before 11 PM and maintain a balanced diet

The most exciting news—after nearly 10 years of fatty liver (which had progressed to moderate fatty liver two years ago) and a 1.5 cm kidney cyst that had been present for 7-8 years (always detected in abdominal ultrasounds), both have completely disappeared after nearly a year of qigong practice combined with medical care.
This has been an incredible motivation for me, giving me even more confidence in both qigong and my body's natural healing ability.

I've come to realize that the human body has an innate power to heal—illnesses can recover, and aging does not mean inevitable sickness, as long as you practice the right method.

I am deeply grateful to Master Bai Yin and Master Yin Quan for their guidance, as well as to my company's qigong club for introducing me to Bai Yin Qigong. Special thanks to the instructors and teaching assistants who helped me learn Turtle Longevity Technique and Advanced EnerQi.

This life-changing transformation has inspired me to become a volunteer, continuing on the path of self-empowerment and virtue-driven practice. With gratitude!
